What is laser peel treatment?

Laser peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that helps reduce wrinkles, blemishes, and any unwanted texture. This procedure is also known as lasabrasion, laser resurfacing, and laser vaporization. What results should one expect?

As a result of this treatment your skin will become tighter and smoother. You will notice an immediate difference in the treated area. However, these are not your final results. The skin condition will likely go on improving for up to a year. You might not need another treatment again but, should you want one, after a year or so you can get another one.

What does aftercare look like?

The doctor will apply an ointment and will dress the treated area. When a full day (24 hours) has passed you will be asked to clean the area 4 to 5 times a day. You will also be given an ointment to apply every time after cleaning.

There might be mild stinging, swelling and itching. Should it become more intense, you will be prescribed a pain killer.

This surgery is performed with the help of ablative laser. It causes skin improvement through the following steps:

The ablative laser removes the top layer of the skin (epidermis).
The ablative laser heats up the underlying skin (dermis) so that collagen fibers shrink.
The new skin that forms during the healing process is tighter and smoother.

The procedure is carried out with the help of anesthesia so the patient feels no pain during the treatment.

Will there be pain after the procedure?

It is common to feel itching and mild stinging. If the discomfort is considerable, your doctor can prescribe you an over the counter pain medication to cope.

Won’t the peeling leave permanent scars?

No, the laser is adjusted to your skin type so that it does not leave any permanent damage. It is common to experience some swelling right after the surgery but it will have disappeared by the time the skin is healed.

How long does recovery take?

Each person’s skin reacts differently to the procedure and so the healing process varies for people too. Your skin should be healed within a month. However, in some cases mild redness can prolong up to a couple of months.

How long do results last?

Results usually last for years. You will not feel the need to have it done again for at least 5 years.
